Voice Actors Peter Sallis and Sally Lindsay have completed their dialogue for the Wallace and Gromit adventure A Matter of Loaf and Death.

Aardman Animation's A Matter of Loaf and Death was under a minor cloud of worry ever since the new Wallace and Gromit adventure was announced by director Nick Park.

First off, would the Bristol-based studio come back strong after the troubled collaboration with DreamWorks Animation collapsed in early 2007? And secondly, would Wallace voice actor Peter Sallis, labouring under the twin issues of macular degeneration and having racked up 87 years on this planet, be able to complete the character dialogue?

Well, worry no more. According to an open letter from Aardman's Kate Munkenbeck, Sallis and fellow actor Sally Lindsay (who is voicing Wallace's new love interest, Piella Bakewell) have completed their voice work, and the production is at full steam ahead.

Here's what she had to say about work on the new short, originally titled Trouble at Mill:

"Hi all!

"The production has really cranked up in terms of pace over the last few months and we've been working our socks off to keep Loaf and Death on schedule! It's all worth it though - as there are some absolutely FANTASTIC shots coming out of the studio floor - I can't emphasise enough how good it's all looking.

"We have now recorded all the dialogue for the film with Peter Sallis and Sally Lindsey, so now (director Nick Park) has the task of listening to everything recorded and selecting which takes to use from all the material.

"Visual effects are coming on well for the film - our in house team have been working closely with Nick to create some fantastic flour atmosphere effects for the bakery and many other exciting effects that I would love to talk about but just can't in case I spoil things for you all!

"The crew and Nick have all had a much deserved break this week as the production takes a well earned holiday, but we are back to the grindstone and busier than ever next week.

"Hope to have some more news for you soon,

Kate Munkenbeck

What's She Really Saying?

Now these blog posts are supposed to be upbeat, even when the production is way behind schedule, the actors are in revolt because someone forgot to remove the red M&M's from the bowl, the director is screaming at the latest changes the executive suite is contemplating, and the production assistants want to serve the Key Grip's liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

But this letter doesn't appear to be labouring under the need to 'spin' what's really going on, and that's a hopeful sign that this will be another brilliant 1/2 hour short from the Wallace and Gromit team.

A Matter of Loaf and Death will air on the BBC in late 2008. There's no word on when it will cross the Atlantic to North American fans.
